About the Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires

ITBA was created on 20 November 1959. It is a private university that focuses on technology, engineering and management and says it has trained more than 11,000 graduates.[1] Its model is oriented towards research and projects and an early link between students and companies.[1]

The university works from several sites in the city: the Distrito Financiero site at San Martín 202, the Distrito Tecnológico site at Lavardén 315 and the Rectorado at Iguazú 341. ITBA lists a future single campus in the Parque de Innovación in Núñez.[6] It is part of four global academic networks (GE3, Magallanes, TIME and UIIN) and reports agreements with more than 90 universities in 35 countries.[9]

How is ITBA ranked?

In the QS World University Rankings 2027 (published 18 June 2026), ITBA is in the 1201–1400 band. Infobae says ITBA entered this list for the first time; the aggregator xuanxiao also shows a 2025 band of 951–1000 and no 2026 band, so the sources do not agree on whether 2027 is the first appearance.[3][7] QS publishes its ranking at topuniversities.com, which blocks automated access, so we could not read QS directly.

Rankings differ by publisher and year, so treat one position as one view. How we compile rankings.

What can you study at ITBA?

ITBA lists 13 undergraduate programmes:[2]

  • Licenciaturas: Behavioural Sciences; Analytics (Data Science); Business and Technology.
  • Bioengineering.
  • Engineering: Civil, Industrial, Electronic, Computer, Mechanical, Naval, Petroleum, Chemical and Biotechnology.

Undergraduate programmes last 4 to 5 years; in the engineering degrees the fourth and fifth years correspond to the first and second master’s years (M1, M2) in the European system.[5] Industrial Engineering, for example, is a five-year, ten-term, full-time, in-person programme with a basic cycle followed by electives.[8] ITBA also lists master’s programmes (for example in Fintech, Artificial Intelligence and Management and Analytics), specialisations, a doctorate and executive education.[1]

How much does ITBA cost?

ITBA calculates degree tuition from the number of credits in the subjects you take in each term.[4] The university’s pages we could read do not publish the credit value or an enrolment fee. The most detailed figures come from iProfesional (15 February 2026), which does not name its source for them:[4]

Item (ARS, 2026)Amount
Value of one credit (about)55,000
Credits in a typical termabout 24
Engineering, first month of 20261,621,752
Enrolment fee for the March and April entries973,053

The same article says Engineering cost about ARS 1,400,000 in July 2025.[4] Confirm the current credit value with ITBA’s admissions team before you plan.

Scholarships

ITBA says that about 30% of its students receive financial aid.[2] Its scholarship programme lists more than 850 funded undergraduates and 15 scholarship types covering up to 100% of tuition, based on need, merit or competitions.[10]

International and exchange students

Students nominated by partner universities can study at ITBA for up to one academic year and are exempt from tuition for regular courses. Free movers from institutions without an agreement pay tuition for the courses they select. In double-degree programmes students pay tuition to only one university, in most cases their home university.[5] The pages we read set no separate rate for full-degree foreign students.

Living costs are not included; see our Argentina guide.

How do you apply to ITBA?

Entry to ITBA’s undergraduate programmes goes through an admission process of preparation courses in STEM subjects (mathematics, physics, chemistry, thinking and language, technology) and vocation skills. It runs in several instances a year, in hybrid or in-person intensive form, and leads to the start of the degree in March or August.[11] Applicants with certain international exams can enter through direct admission after taking the TSA test.[11]

Registration is online in three steps: fill in your personal and academic data and upload documents, pay the registration fee, and pay the enrolment fee to confirm your place in the admission process.[12] The documents listed are a digital or scanned DNI (front and back), proof of secondary studies (a regular-student certificate if you are in the last year, or your title or transcript) and a digital means of payment.[12] The page does not describe what foreign applicants without a DNI submit; ask the admission team.

For a semester or year abroad at ITBA, see the exchange route on the university’s incoming-students page.[5] We give no dates here because they change every year.

Which language level do you need?

For degree programmes, ITBA states that the English level required depends on the programme, and it checks students’ level through an agreement with ICANA.[2]

For exchange students, ITBA offers courses in Spanish and in English. Courses taught in Spanish (or marked “English friendly”) require a B1 Spanish certificate, and native speakers are exempt. Courses taught in English require a B2 English certificate; students who take only English-taught classes do not need a Spanish certificate. Double-degree applicants need B1 Spanish or the Spanish intensive course.[5] B1 and B2 are levels on the European CEFR scale (A1 to C2).
