About TU Dublin
TU Dublin was established on 1 January 2019 and is described by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) as Ireland’s first technological university.[1] It was formed from three institutions: Dublin Institute of Technology, Institute of Technology Blanchardstown and Institute of Technology Tallaght.[1] The five campuses are Grangegorman, Blanchardstown, Tallaght, Bolton Street and Aungier Street.[2]
The university describes itself as a national leader in STEM, engineering, creative arts and business education, with a practice-based, employer-engaged model of learning.[2] It names over 800 industry partners and over 7,000 graduates each year.[2] Its teaching is organised in five faculties; the Faculty of Business states that it has over 6,000 students across six schools.[8]
How is TU Dublin ranked?
A news report on the QS World University Rankings 2027, published on 18 June 2026, lists an entry called “Dublin Institute of Technology” at 791–800, against 781–790 in 2026.[3] The report does not name TU Dublin. We read the entry as TU Dublin because the HEA states that the former Dublin Institute of Technology merged into TU Dublin in 2019,[1] and the other seven entries in the report’s list of eight Irish institutions are other universities (Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, University College Cork, University of Galway, University of Limerick, Dublin City University and Maynooth University). Treat the band as a reported position, not one we could check at QS, whose site blocks automated access.
TU Dublin’s own page states a global sustainability ranking of 17th out of nearly 600 institutions and a Gold STARS accreditation from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). The page does not name the ranking table.[2] Rankings differ by publisher and year, so treat one position as one view. How we compile rankings.
What can you study at TU Dublin?
The university lists five faculties:[8]
- Arts & Humanities: a faculty that names six schools and lists seven units, among them Art & Design, the Conservatoire, Culinary Arts & Food Technology, Media, and Tourism & Hospitality Management.
- Business: six schools, including Accounting, Economics & Finance, Global Business and the Graduate Business School.
- Computing, Digital & Data: four schools, including Computer Science and Informatics & Cybersecurity.
- Engineering, Built Environment: more than 180 programmes across five schools, from Architecture, Building & Environment to Transport & Civil Engineering.
- Sciences & Health: four schools, including Biological, Health & Sports Sciences and Chemical & BioPharmaceutical Sciences.
Undergraduate and postgraduate courses are listed on the university’s course pages, each with its own entry requirements and fee.[5]
How much does TU Dublin cost for international students?
Non-EU undergraduate
TU Dublin’s international fee page lists €11,650 a year for Level 6 and €12,500 a year for Level 7 programmes. For Level 8 it points to the undergraduate brochure.[4] The three honours-degree course pages we read (Computer Science TU856, Science general entry TU854 and International Business TU902) each show a non-EU fee of €13,500 a year.[5] Neither page states the academic year, and the fee page says fees are set annually and that some specialised courses carry a different fee.[4] Fees include tuition, examination and registration fees.[4]
Non-EU taught master’s, 2026/27
The official postgraduate fee schedule for September 2026 to August 2027 (updated 31 August 2026) gives a non-EU total fee for each programme.[6] Examples from the schedule:
| Programme (full-time) | Length | Non-EU total fee |
|---|---|---|
| MA in Journalism | 1 year | €13,500 |
| MSc Electronic & Communications Engineering | 1 year | €14,500 |
| MSc in Computer Science | 1 to 1.5 years | €21,750 |
| MSc in Data Analytics (with streams) | 1 year | €21,750 |
In the schedule most full-time programmes sit at €13,500 or €14,500; a few are higher, up to €27,000 for two-year programmes such as the MA in Law (Professional).[6] Always check the programme line, because the figure is the total for the programme, not always a yearly amount.
Deposit and payment
Applicants pay at least 50% of the year’s tuition fee, or €6,000 if that is greater, to guarantee a place; the rest can be paid in instalments before the end of January for a September start.[4] The postgraduate application page also lists a non-refundable €300 deposit to accept an offer.[10] Non-EU applicants may be entitled to EU fees; TU Dublin asks them to contact the International Office to be assessed.[4]
EU students and the student contribution
EU students who meet the Free Fees Initiative criteria usually pay only the student contribution.[9] TU Dublin’s page lists a contribution of €3,000 for 2026/27 and notes a €500 reduction under Budget 2026 for students eligible for free fees. Tuition for those not eligible runs from €250 to €1,450 a year depending on level and subject.[9] The HEA’s Free Fees page states a student contribution of €2,350 for 2026/27.[11] The two pages differ and we could not reconcile them; confirm the amount with the university and see our Ireland guide for living costs.
How do you apply to TU Dublin?
The route depends on where you live and which qualification you hold.
- Undergraduate, EU applicants and Irish Leaving Certificate holders: apply through the Central Applications Office (CAO). This also covers non-EU nationals who have lived in Ireland for 3 of the last 5 years.[12]
- Undergraduate, international applicants: if you hold non-EU nationality and live outside the EU, you apply online to TU Dublin’s International Admissions Office through the link on the course page. The application fee is €50 and non-refundable.[12]
- Postgraduate: international applicants apply online through the link on the relevant course page, with the same €50 fee. Documents include passport, transcripts, degree certificate, CV, proof of English and a statement of purpose.[10]
Offers are conditional (you must still meet course or English requirements) or firm. Incomplete applications are rejected automatically, and visa processing can take up to 12 weeks.[12] We give no deadlines here because they change every year and differ by course; the course page lists the dates.
Which English level do you need?
For most undergraduate programmes TU Dublin accepts IELTS Academic 6.0 with no component below 6, TOEFL iBT 80, Duolingo English Test 120 (at least 110 in each subscore) or Pearson PTE Academic 65.[7] Tests taken on or after 21 January 2026 use a new TOEFL iBT scale, for which the university gives a total of 4.5.[7] Some programmes require a higher score, and postgraduate requirements are on each programme page.[7]
Results must come from a single sitting and be issued within two years of the course start.[7] Postgraduate applicants may be accepted on other evidence, such as a degree taught in English.[7] You can apply before you receive a test result.[12]
