About OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University
OsloMet describes itself as an urban university that has contributed knowledge and expertise to the Norwegian welfare society for more than 200 years. It is known for teacher education, health and social care, social sciences, design and technology.[1] In its own figures it counts 24,120 students, 2,403 employees (in work years) and six PhD programmes.[1]
The institution was established as a university on 12 January 2018. It evolved from Oslo and Akershus University College, which was created in 2011 by merging Oslo University College and Akershus University College; the college had in turn absorbed around 30 earlier vocational colleges.[2] Most of the university lies in central Oslo along Pilestredet, with a subsidiary campus at Kjeller in Akershus.[2]
How is OsloMet ranked?
The QS World University Rankings 2027, published on 18 June 2026, list OsloMet in the 1201–1400 band; the aggregator XuanXiao does not give an exact position within it. The same page shows U.S. News 2027 at 869 and no Times Higher Education or ARWU entry.[3]
We could not read the QS table itself, because topuniversities.com blocks automated access, so treat the band as reported by a third party. Rankings differ by publisher and year. How we compile rankings.

- Art Therapy (part time)
- Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering

How much does OsloMet cost in 2026/27?
| Programme | Non-EU/EEA students per year |
|---|---|
| International Development, Education and Sustainabilities | NOK 67,000 |
| Nordic Social Policy and Global Sustainable Development | NOK 95,000 |
| Applied Computer and Information Technology (ACIT) | NOK 95,000 |

These are the 2026/27 fees, valid from autumn 2026; the page was last updated on 3 August 2026.[4] The fee is adjusted for inflation each academic year, covers courses, guidance, exams and administration, and does not cover visa, living costs or books. It must be paid in full before the academic year starts, in Norwegian kroner, with no instalments.[4]
Who is exempt?
Students from the EU, the EEA and EFTA are exempt, as are exchange students from partner institutions. The government has also exempted some applicants because of their residence in Norway or other close connections.[4] OsloMet offers no scholarships or loans, and the page says no national scholarships are available either.[4]
Semester fee
Every full-time degree student pays a semester fee each semester. It consists of NOK 690 to SiO (the student welfare foundation for Oslo and Akershus), a copy fee of NOK 220 for full-time students (NOK 120 part time) and an optional NOK 60 for the aid organisation SAIH. Some programmes add a material fee.[5] Exchange students are generally exempt from the SiO fee.[5] For living costs in Oslo, see our Norway guide.
How do you apply to OsloMet?
Applications for the international master’s programmes go through Søknadsweb. Applicants need an average grade of at least C on the ECTS scale in their bachelor’s degree. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee a place, because applicants are ranked by bachelor’s grade point average. Some foreign bachelor’s degrees may not be recognised as equivalent to a Norwegian one, and sometimes only parts of a foreign education are recognised.[6]
You upload scans of your original documents, preferably as PDF files; an application without supporting documents is invalid.[6] Non-EU/EEA applicants pay tuition, while applicants from the EU/EEA/EFTA do not.[6] We give no deadlines here because they change every year; check the OsloMet admission pages for the date that applies to your citizenship.
Which language level do you need?
For master’s programmes OsloMet accepts these tests:[7]

| IELTS Academic (incl. online) | 6.0 overall and in each component |
| PTE Academic | 62 overall and in each component |
| Cambridge | Proficiency (CPE) or Advanced (CAE) grade A, B or C; First grade A |
You are exempt if, for example, you completed upper secondary school in one of a list of English-speaking countries, at least one year of university study taught in English in the UK, USA, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia, a bachelor’s degree taught in English in a Nordic country or the Netherlands, or one year of English-taught master’s study there. Exempt applicants must still submit proof so the application is complete.[7]
