About Universidad de Lima
Universidad de Lima was established on 25 April 1962. According to Wikipedia, the decision to create it was taken in 1960 by a group of college professors together with commerce and industry representatives.[1] Its homepage reports 64 years of history, 31,521 students and 77,055 alumni.[2] Wikipedia gives a lower figure of about 28,000 students for 2025, so the two numbers differ.[1]
The campus is in Santiago de Surco, at Av. Javier Prado Este 4600.[2] The university is a member of the Consortium of Universities, a group of four private Peruvian universities that also includes PUCP and Cayetano Heredia.[1]
How is Universidad de Lima ranked?
In the QS World University Rankings 2027, published on 18 June 2026, Universidad de Lima is in the 1201–1400 band, according to RPP and La República.[3][4] Infobae gives no band for it, but says that it ranks first in Peru for internationalization and second for employer reputation.[9]
Wikipedia describes it as one of the top five universities in Peru, but its ranking claim is dated, so we rely on the QS reports above.[1] Rankings differ by publisher and year, so treat one position as one view. How we compile rankings.
What can you study at Universidad de Lima?
The university offers 14 undergraduate programmes: Business Administration, Architecture, Communication, Accounting and Finance, Law, Economics, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Marketing, International Business and Psychology.[10] It also lists 15 master’s programmes and 3 doctorates.[2]
New undergraduates are admitted to the General Studies programme first; in the first level the student enrols in all subjects of that programme.[5] See the official undergraduate pages.
How much does Universidad de Lima cost?
Tuition (pensión) depends on the number of credits you enrol in. The value of a credit is set by a payment category that is assigned from the school you attended, and there is no recategorisation later.[5]
- If you spent the last three years of secondary school in one school, you get that school’s category.[5]
- If you attended several schools, you get the category of the school with the highest economic level; you have 20 days after entry to ask a committee to review it.[5]
- Foreign schools are assigned category “P”.[5]
- Applicants who have already completed another degree get the first or second highest category.[5]
We could not find the credit values for any category on the pages we read: the admission guide refers applicants to a fee simulator and to postulantespregrado@ulima.edu.pe, and the simulator we opened shows only how the category is assigned and says that its information is for reference.[5][11] The admission exam registration is S/ 450 (a reference value, subject to change), paid by bank.[6] Amounts are in Peruvian soles (PEN). Living costs in Lima are covered in our Peru guide.
How do you apply to Universidad de Lima?
The admission page lists 16 routes, including the general admission exam, the school-pupil exam, top-two places in secondary school, the Pre Lima preparation centre, Baccalaureate Diploma routes (with and without credit recognition), diplomats, qualified athletes, transfer into a degree programme, the free-student programme and academic-performance routes.[6] The 2026-2 guide says that admission to General Studies is by exam, top-two places, the pre-university centre, diplomatic status, International Baccalaureate, academic performance at selected schools or qualified-athlete status.[5]
- Foreign applicants: the identity document is a carné de extranjería or a passport. Documents must be officially translated into Spanish where needed and sealed and signed by the Peruvian consulate in the country of origin and by Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Secondary studies completed abroad must be validated by Peru’s Ministry of Education.[5]
- Exchange students: the home university nominates the student by e-mail to internacional@ulima.edu.pe; the student then applies online with a passport copy, an official transcript in Spanish or English, the signed application form and a photo. After acceptance, the university asks for international health insurance, return flight tickets for a stay of at most 180 days and the Lima address.[10] Exchange students enter Peru as tourists and must change their migratory status within the first 90 days, to Temporary Training (six months) or Resident Training (one year); the university supports this, but the procedure is the student’s responsibility.[10]
- Scholarship for national-school pupils: the Ilse Wisotzki scholarship offers ten places and requires the applicant to have studied in Peruvian national schools, so it does not apply to foreign-school graduates.[6]
We give no deadlines here because they change every cycle. Ask the admission office (postulantespregrado@ulima.edu.pe) which route fits your documents.[5]
Which language do you need?
The admission guide, enrolment guide and application portal are in Spanish.[5][8] The pages we read do not state a required Spanish level or a list of accepted Spanish certificates.
English matters too: new entrants take an in-person English assessment before classes begin, and undergraduates must prove knowledge of a foreign language, preferably English or a native language, to be considered graduates. Each programme sets the language and level.[8][5] The university runs an English programme at its Centre of Languages.[5]
