About Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy
The university dates its foundation to 1857.[1] Wikipedia describes it as having begun as the National School of Medicine and Pharmacy, co-founded by Carol Davila and Nicolae Kretzulescu. It was called the Institute of Medicine and Pharmacy of Bucharest from 1948 to 1991, when it took its current name.[2]
It is a specialised institution, not a general university. Its four faculties are Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Nursing (the faculty tiles name “Midwifery and Nursing”), and it teaches in Romanian, English and French.[1][7] The main address is Str. Dionisie Lupu 37, Sector 2, Bucharest.[6]

Wikipedia reports that the URAP ranking placed it first among Romanian universities in 2025, at 774th worldwide, and that the Shanghai ranking puts it in the 101–150 range for clinical medicine.[2] We could not check those two rankings at their publishers, so treat them as secondary information. Rankings differ by publisher and year, so treat one position as one view. How we compile rankings.

How do you apply to Carol Davila University?
International applicants use the International Students Admission Portal.[8] The 2026/27 methodology for the English programmes sets these rules:[5]
- All documents except the passport and the language certificate need authorised, legalised translations into Romanian; translations into other languages are not accepted.
- Study documents must carry an Apostille or be authenticated (super-legalised), depending on the issuing country.
- If the file is complete, you receive a validation email; if not, the university asks you to correct it within the application schedule.
- Admission is by entrance competition. The university publishes scientific topics for the admission interview.[8]
- Enrolment depends on the Letter of Acceptance from the Romanian Ministry of Education and Research, payment of the seat confirmation fee, a complete paper file (including a copy of the study visa) and signing the study contract.
- Non-EU students need a study visa, issued on the basis of the Letter of Acceptance and full payment of tuition. It is valid for 90 days, during which you must obtain a residence permit.
We give no deadlines here because they change every year; the application schedule is an annex to the methodology.
Which language level do you need?
For the English programmes you must show English at level B2 or higher on the CEFR scale (the European scale from A1 to C2). You can do this in three ways:[5]
- an internationally recognised language certificate not older than two years, with the level stated (Annex 3 of the methodology lists the accepted certificates);
- a certificate from a high school where the language of instruction is English;
- the document showing at least B2 in English in the baccalaureate exam.
Applicants who wish to study in Romanian or French should ask the admission office for the requirements of those programmes; we did not find them on the pages we read.[9]
