The university lists five faculties on its site: the Medical Faculty for International Students, General Medicine, Pediatrics, Medical Diagnostics and Mental Health Medicine.[6] Its history page says the university has five academic buildings.[1] Times Higher Education (THE) counts 5,124 full-time-equivalent students, according to Xuanxiao.[4]

The Medical Faculty for International Students says its students come from 31 countries; Sri Lanka has the largest group (728), followed by Turkmenistan (216), India (191), Nigeria (94) and the Maldives (51). The page is undated.[2]

How is GrSMU ranked?

We could not confirm a position for GrSMU in the QS World University Rankings 2027, published on 18 June 2026. Rankings differ by publisher and year, so treat one position as one view. How we compile rankings. For the national picture, see universities in Belarus.

What can you study at GrSMU?

International students can study General Medicine in Russian or in English. The programme corresponds to a 6-year M.D. course, is full-time and paid, and leads to an international diploma with the qualification of physician and the title Doctor of Medicine.[2] Classes begin on 1 September; first-year students may start until 15 October.[2]

International students study 62 disciplines at 44 departments of the university. English-taught groups are led by teachers who have completed English courses and are certified in the language; the faculty counts 231 of them, among them 16 professors and 84 associate professors.[2] The university also runs preparatory courses, listed in its Admission & Aid menu.[6]

How do you apply to GrSMU?

The International Affairs Department describes a step-by-step route:[7]

  • Documents by e-mail: you choose a programme and e-mail a form, an application, a medical certificate, your passport and its translation, your birth certificate, the original higher secondary certificate with the subjects studied and marks, and a certificate of non-criminal record translated into English or Russian.[7]
  • Response and invitation: the university says it notifies you within one week whether the application is approved. Citizens of visa-regime countries need an invitation to study to get a Belarusian visa.[7]
  • Admission: the admission board decides on the basis of the documents and a personal interview. After a positive decision you sign an agreement. Documents must carry notarised translations.[9]

The university also publishes an approximate list of admission test questions for English-taught applicants and a regulation on foreign citizens’ admission for 2026/2027.[9] The university also links a digital applicant office for foreign citizens.[6] We give no deadlines here because they change every year; check the current regulation with the university.

Which language level do you need?

GrSMU does not name a language certificate or CEFR level (the European scale from A1 to C2) on the pages we read. You choose Russian or English as the language of study, and admission includes a personal interview.[2][9] The university publishes a list of admission-test topics for applicants to the English-taught programme.[9]

The entry requirement on the programme page is a secondary school certificate with compulsory study and final results in Chemistry, Biology and Physics.[2] The invitation page names those three subjects as the core subjects and gives C as the minimum passing grade.[7]
