About Beijing Institute of Technology
BIT began as the Yan’an Research Academy of Natural Sciences, set up in 1939 in Shaanxi; it opened as the Yan’an Academy of Natural Sciences on 1 September 1940. Wikipedia calls it the first science and engineering university founded by the Chinese Communist Party.[1] It moved and merged several times before settling in Beijing, where in 1950 the Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry departments of the Sino-French University were merged into it.[1]
BIT is a public university in Haidian District, Beijing. It was among the first universities designated under Project 211 and the tenth designated under Project 985, and is part of the Double First-Class Construction.[1] Its campuses are the Zhongguancun campus (the oldest), the Liangxiang campus in Fangshan District, a campus in Zhuhai, Guangdong, and others.[1][6]
For international students the university lists 22 schools, among them Aerospace Engineering, Automation, Computer Science and Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Optics and Photonics, Management, Law and Medical Technology.[6] Wikipedia’s only student figures are for 2010 and are outdated, so we use the Times Higher Education figure for 2027.[1][3]
