LUISS Guido Carli is a private university in Rome with about 11,900 students from more than 100 nationalities, seven departments and three schools (undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate).[1] We could not confirm an overall position in the QS World University Rankings 2027. LUISS itself points to subject and programme rankings, for example 23rd for Politics and International Studies in the QS subject ranking and 30th for its Master in Management in the Financial Times 2026 ranking.[1]
For applicants from outside the EU and the Schengen area, the single annual contribution is €15,000 in the 2026/27 master’s call[2] and €15,000 on the 2027/28 bachelor’s page.[3] The 2027/28 master’s test page gives €16,000 for the first year.[4] Bachelor’s entry is by the online LUISS Test; master’s entry for non-EU applicants runs through GMAT/GRE certificates or a test, plus a €150 fee.[2][3]

About LUISS Guido Carli
LUISS Guido Carli is a private university in Rome whose main address is Viale Pola 12.[6] Wikipedia dates the establishment to 1974 and says it grew out of Pro Deo University, founded in 1966; it took the name Luiss Guido Carli in 1994, after Guido Carli, its president from 1978 until his death in 1993.[5] The article is not consistent about the dates, and LUISS’s own pages we read state no founding year.[5]
Teaching is organised in seven departments: Accounting and Corporate Finance; AI, Data and Decision Sciences; Business and Management; Business and Economic Law; Law and Institutions; Economics and Financial Markets; and Political Science.[1] The university lists over 360 partner universities in 77 countries and about 60 dual-degree and structured partnership agreements.[1]
How is LUISS Guido Carli ranked?
We could not confirm a position for LUISS in the QS World University Rankings 2027, published on 18 June 2026. It does not appear in the Italian press lists we read, which cover the top ten Italian universities, and QS blocks automated access to its own site. LUISS’s pages mention only subject-level QS results.[1]
LUISS lists these results in its own words:[1]
- 23rd in the world for Politics and International Studies in the QS subject ranking (the page gives no year; the key facts page says QS by Subject 2026)[7]
- Financial Times Masters in Management 2026: 30th
- Financial Times Masters in Finance 2026: 18th worldwide and 1st in Italy
- CENSIS 2026/2027: 1st among large non-state Italian universities
- UI GreenMetric: 14th most sustainable university in the world
A second LUISS page also lists 59th globally and 2nd in Italy for Business & Management in the QS World University Rankings 2025 (subject ranking).[8] These are rankings of subjects or single programmes, not an overall university rank. How we compile rankings.
What can you study at LUISS Guido Carli?
LUISS offers bachelor’s and single-cycle master’s degrees in law through its Undergraduate School, master’s degrees through the Graduate School, plus a Postgraduate School, summer programmes, a foundation programme and PhDs.[6]
Bachelor’s and single-cycle law. The 2027/28 non-EU test page lists English-taught programmes in Business Administration, Economics and Business, Global Law, Management and Artificial Intelligence, and Politics: Philosophy and Economics, and Italian-taught programmes in Economia e Management, Giurisprudenza (law) and Scienze Politiche.[3]
Master’s. The 2026/27 non-EU call lists these English-taught master’s programmes:[2]
- Accounting, Financial Management and Control
- Economics, Institutions and Financial Markets, Economics, Data and Policy Analysis
- Government and Public Affairs, English orientation
- Marketing, English orientation
- Strategic Management, English orientation
- Data Science and Management
- Global Management and Politics
- International Relations
The same call lists Italian-taught versions or equivalents of several of these (for example Administration, Finance and Control and Economics, Institutions and Financial Markets with a banking track).[2]
How much does LUISS Guido Carli cost?
LUISS charges a single annual contribution that varies by programme level. The amounts below are those we found for applicants from outside the EU and the Schengen area:
| Route | Academic year | Annual fee |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor’s and single-cycle law, non-EU LUISS Test | 2027/28 | €15,000[3] |
| Master’s, non-EU certificate route (GMAT/GRE) | 2026/27 | €15,000, first instalment €5,000[2] |
| Master’s, non-EU test route | 2027/28 | €16,000 for the first year[4] |
The 2027/28 master’s test page also mentions €18,000 for a category it describes as bachelor’s programmes in Management and Finance, which looks out of place on a master’s page as we read it; confirm any bachelor’s figure with LUISS before you plan.[4] We did not find an amount for EU or Schengen applicants.
Instalment and extra costs
- The first instalment of €5,000 is paid at enrolment and is non-refundable in the 2026/27 master’s call, except if the bachelor’s degree is not obtained by the deadline.[2]
- Selection fee: €150, mandatory and non-refundable.[3][4]
- Regional tax: a LUISS scholarship call for EU/Schengen students states that students pay any taxes imposed by the State or the Lazio Region, such as the regional tax “Contributo Suppletivo”. The call gives no amount.[9]
Scholarships and exemptions
LUISS offers scholarships and partial or full exemptions from the single contribution, linked to economic and merit requirements.[10] For 2026/27 it advertised 28 scholarships for EU and Schengen students admitted through the LUISS Test, 18 of them full waivers of the annual fee.[9] The more than 2,000 scholarships and exemptions it reports cover all students.[1] For living costs in Rome, see our Italy guide and the Study in Italy guide.
How do you apply to LUISS Guido Carli?
The route depends on the level and on whether you hold EU or Schengen citizenship. This page covers applicants from outside the EU and the Schengen area.
- Bachelor’s and single-cycle law: you take the LUISS Test, an online assessment of logical reasoning, problem-solving and mathematics, modelled on the SAT. You have one attempt, for one degree programme only, and must hold or obtain a secondary diploma valid for Italian university enrolment.[3] The selection fee is €150.[3]
- Master’s, certificate route: you need a bachelor’s degree valid for master’s enrolment in Italy by the date in the call, curricular requirements, and a GMAT certificate of at least 515 out of 805 or a GRE certificate with at least 145 in both Verbal and Quantitative, taken within the last three years. The application costs €150 online.[2]
- Master’s, test route: an online test, scored out of 100 for the first-choice programme; you can choose up to two programmes in the same area (Economics, or Law and Political Science). The committee sets minimum thresholds.[4]
Admission is “with reservation” until LUISS has checked the original documents, the degree and the curricular requirements. Foreign qualifications must meet the Italian ministries’ rules, usually with a Declaration of Value, a CIMEA verification or, in some Lisbon Convention cases, a Diploma Supplement. Checking visa requirements is the candidate’s responsibility.[2] The LUISS pages we read do not describe Universitaly pre-enrolment, so ask the admissions office (ammissione@luiss.it) how it applies to you.[11]
We give no deadlines here because they change every year. LUISS publishes the call for each intake on its admissions pages, and admission notices for 2027/28 are announced from November 2026.[11]
Which language level do you need?
For the bachelor’s LUISS Test, the test language follows the programme: Italian-taught programmes are tested in Italian, English-taught programmes in English. Foreign school reports must be in Italian, English or French. The page does not mention a separate English or Italian proficiency certificate.[3]
For master’s programmes you choose the test language: an Italian test limits you to Italian-taught courses, while an English test allows both Italian- and English-taught courses. The page states no minimum language level.[4] The 2026/27 certificate-route call asks for GMAT or GRE scores and does not list a language certificate either.[2] Individual programme pages may add requirements, so check the programme you want.
