About Tor Vergata University of Rome
Tor Vergata University of Rome is a public institution founded in 1982.[1] Its six schools are housed in six buildings on a campus of about 600 hectares, roughly 40 minutes by metro from the historic centre of Rome.[6] The area is home to the National Research Council (CNR) and the Italian Space Agency (ASI), and the Policlinico Tor Vergata university hospital stands on the campus.[1]
The university lists 18 departments, 6 libraries and more than 33,000 students.[1] It calls itself “Tor Vergata University of Rome” in English; the Italian name is Università degli Studi di Roma “Tor Vergata”.[1]
How is Tor Vergata University of Rome ranked?
In the QS World University Rankings 2027, published on 18 June 2026, Tor Vergata is 342nd in the world and eighth among Italian universities. Italian press reports list it directly behind the University of Pisa (341st) and ahead of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart (388th).[2][10]
The university’s own “main rankings and results” page only lists results from 2014 and 2015, so we did not use it for a current position.[11] We read these positions in press reports, not on the QS website, which blocks automated access. Rankings differ by publisher and year, so treat one position as one view. How we compile rankings.
What can you study at Tor Vergata University of Rome?
The university offers about 120 bachelor’s, master’s and single-cycle programmes, about 130 postgraduate courses, 53 specialisation schools and 37 PhD programmes.[1] The home page gives somewhat different counts for the same categories (120 undergraduate courses, 142 professional master’s programmes, 51 specialisation schools and 37 PhD programmes), so treat the postgraduate numbers as approximate.[5]
Studies are grouped in six schools: Economics, Engineering, Humanities and Philosophy, Law, Medicine and Surgery, and Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences.[1] The university says that several programmes are taught in English and that it offers dual and joint degrees.[1] We did not read a full list of English-taught programmes; use the course catalogue on the university website.
How much does Tor Vergata University of Rome cost?
Fees depend on where the student’s family earns its income. The pages we read were last edited in 2024 and one of them names 2023/24 dates; none states the 2026/27 amounts. Ask the university for the current schedule before you plan your budget.[4][8]
Non-EU students whose family income is earned abroad
These students can choose between two options:[3]
| Programme or origin | Flat tax per year |
|---|---|
| M.Sc. Business Administration, M.Sc. Finance and Banking, B.Sc. Business Administration and Economics, M.Sc. European Economy and Business Law, M.Sc. Economics, Pharmacy, one-cycle Medicine and Surgery | €2,500 |
| B.A. Global Governance | €4,500 |
| Any other programme | €1,000 |
| Students from countries on the Ministry’s “developing countries” list (except the €2,500 and €4,500 programmes above) | €500 |
A regional tax and stamp duty of €156 in total is added to these amounts.[3] The alternative is to declare the family income by submitting an equalised ISEE (ISEE parificato), after which the fee runs from €156 up to the maximum rate.[3] Winners of the Lazio DiSCo scholarship still pay the flat tax and are only exempt from the regional fee (€140).[3] The page was last edited on 17 June 2024 and does not name an academic year.[3]
Students whose family income is earned in Italy
EU and non-EU students whose family income is earned in Italy pay the same fees as Italian students.[7] Those fees follow the university ISEE: under ordinary taxation there is a no-tax area up to an ISEE of €26,000, with partial exemptions between €26,000 and €30,000, and the maximum rate for an ISEE above €90,000 or no ISEE.[4] That page refers to the 2023/24 academic year.[4]
Instalments
The first instalment is stamp duty (€16) plus the regional fee (€140) plus a tuition share of €0 for ordinary, €200 for higher and €332 for maximum taxation. Late payments carry a penalty of €50 (within one month of the due date) or €100 (later).[8] These figures also come from a page edited in April 2024.[8]

How do you apply to Tor Vergata University of Rome?
Applicants with a non-Italian qualification first choose a programme and read its official call for applications or admission notice; requirements and selection procedures differ by programme. Where required, the application is submitted online on the Delphi platform with the requested documents and fee.[9] The university does not use agencies or recruiters abroad.[9]
- Bachelor’s and single-cycle: a final upper-secondary diploma (at least EQF level 4) that normally follows at least 12 years of schooling, plus any entry exam required in the home country (for example the Gaokao in China). With 11 years of schooling you need proof of one year of university study.[9]
- Master’s: a first-cycle degree (at least EQF level 6) recognised for second-cycle study, a transcript or diploma supplement, and the curricular and language requirements of the programme.[9]
- Documents: qualifications need an apostille or legalisation (or a CIMEA verification), and an eligibility document: an ARDI statement of correspondence, a declaration of value or a CIMEA statement of comparability, depending on the country.[9]
- Visa: non-EU applicants residing abroad who need a study visa must pre-enrol on Universitaly. Validation by the university does not guarantee a visa.[9]
Applicants to programmes with entrance examinations must also follow the admission schedule of those programmes.[9] We give no deadlines because they change every year and differ by programme.
Which language level do you need?
The language requirement is set by the programme, not by a university-wide rule. The admissions page says that language requirements may differ between programmes and tells applicants to read the call of their chosen programme.[9] For master’s programmes the applicant must satisfy the language requirements the programme establishes.[9]
The home page announces Italian language courses at CLICI,[5] and the admissions section lists a Foundation Course in English.[9] We did not read the content of either, so check them if you need preparation.
