About African Methodist Episcopal University
AMEU describes itself as a private Christian university founded in 1995 under the African Methodist Episcopal Church, with a mission of “transformative, Christ-centered education”.[1] Wikipedia says it was organised in 1995 by Bishop Cornal Garnett Henning, Sr., and church leaders, and chartered in February 1996. Bryant Theological Seminary, started in 1992, was its first component school.[2]
The university lists a Capitol Hill address at 34 Camp Johnson Road and no other campuses.[1] Wikipedia says the National Commission on Higher Education approved it to operate temporarily in November 2005 and gave full approval in February 2006.[2] We could not read the history page on the university’s own site, which returned an error, so the founding details rest on Wikipedia.
How is African Methodist Episcopal University ranked?
We could not confirm a position for AMEU in the QS World University Rankings 2027, published on 18 June 2026, and found no entry for it in the sources we read. We show “Not confirmed” and give no number. Wikipedia described AMEU as the second-largest school in Liberia in 2018, behind the University of Liberia; that is a size statement, not a ranking.[2] How we compile rankings.
What can you study at AMEU?
The university lists five undergraduate colleges:[1]
- York College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
- Manning College of Business and Public Administration
- College of Education
- College of Science and Allied Health
- Bryant College of Theological Seminary
It also has a Graduate School and a Professional Development unit. Master’s programmes named on the site include Accounting, Administrative Social Work, Auditing, Biodiversity and Environmental Management, Clinical Social Work, Divinity, Finance, International Development, Natural Resource Management, and Procurement and Supply Chain Management.[1] Doctoral (PhD) study is also an option on the admission inquiry form.[4]
How much does AMEU cost?
We could not find a published tuition rate. The “Tuition & Fees” page on the university’s website showed only “Content coming soon”, and the entry-requirements and admission pages state no amounts.[3][4] Contact the university at info@ameu.edu.lr or +231-773-198-868 for the current fee schedule.[1]
One fee has been reported: a student-press article of 1 September 2025 said the technology (IT) fee rose from US$12 to US$20, and that students received no advance notice. The article does not say per semester or per year, and it gives no tuition figure.[6] Treat it as a news report, not a fee schedule.
How do you apply to AMEU?
- Undergraduate: a completed application form, a high school diploma or equivalent and WAEC/WASSCE results. Entrance-exam applications go through the university’s exam portal. The admission page does not give an application fee.[4]
- Graduate: a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognised institution, a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 in a relevant field, official transcripts, degree certificates, a CV and two letters of recommendation. Divinity and International Development ask for three letters, and Divinity also asks for two years of work experience. Admission is approved by the Graduate Admissions Committee.[5]
- First contact: the site offers an admission inquiry form where you choose your level (bachelor’s, master’s, PhD or professional certificate) and college.[4]
Dates on the admission page relate to the academic calendar, not to application deadlines, so we list none.
Which language level do you need?
The pages we read list no separate English test. English appears only as a subject of the Graduate Admission Examination, which most graduate programmes require in English and Mathematics.[5] The undergraduate page asks for WAEC/WASSCE results and mentions no language requirement.[4] International applicants should ask the admissions office what evidence of English is expected.
