About Rotterdam School of Management

RSM’s own history page dates its origins to 1913, when the Netherlands School of Commerce was founded in Rotterdam through a private initiative with support from the local business community. After a 1966 feasibility study and the joining of Delft University of Technology in 1968, a Graduate School of Management was inaugurated in 1969 as a joint initiative; it first opened its doors in 1970 in a villa in Kralingen, with 30 students.[2] In 1972 it moved to Delft, and in 1984 it moved back to Rotterdam and “became part of Erasmus University”.[2]

RSM today states more than 250 senior researchers, 150 PhD students, 35 research centres and initiatives, and seven departments, among them Accounting, Finance, Marketing Management and Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship.[1] The campus address is Burgemeester Oudlaan 50 in Rotterdam.[1]

A business school inside a university: RSM is not a stand-alone university. Its official name is “Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University”, and the fees on this page are the ones Erasmus University publishes for RSM programmes.[3] The RSM pages we read do not state the legal form of the school, so we do not describe it further.

How is RSM ranked?

RSM is a business school, so its published rankings are business-school and programme rankings. On its rankings page RSM lists, among others:[6]

  • Financial Times Global MBA 2026: International Full-time MBA, 52nd worldwide and first in the Benelux.
  • Financial Times Executive Education 2026: open programmes, first in the Netherlands.
  • ShanghaiRanking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2024: 15th worldwide in management and 19th in business administration.
  • QS Business Master’s rankings (news items dated 24 September 2026; the edition year is not stated on the page): Master in Management 17th and MSc Supply Chain Management 6th worldwide.

The page does not give the year for several other listed results, so we do not repeat them.[6]

In the overall QS World University Rankings 2027 (published 18 June 2026) the sources we read list Erasmus University Rotterdam as a whole at 148th, not RSM separately.[7] Wikipedia’s article on the university gives 140th for the 2026 edition.[8] The two figures are from different editions. Rankings differ by publisher and year, so treat one position as one view. How we compile rankings.

How do you apply to RSM?

The route is the same for the bachelor’s and the master’s: you first register for one programme in Studielink, the Dutch national student registration system, and then complete the RSM Online Application Form (OLAF). You can apply for only one programme in OLAF.[11][4]

For the master’s, applicants whose diploma was obtained outside the Netherlands need a GMAT result, which they add to OLAF and have sent to RSM through the GMAT database. You can apply first and send English or GMAT results later, but you must say when you plan to take the tests.[11] Admissions reviews the application, and status updates and results appear in OLAF.[11]

The bachelor’s page refers to separate pages for admission requirements by diploma. We give no deadlines here because they change every year and differ by programme; check the programme page before you register.[4]

Which English level do you need?

RSM publishes separate English-test minimums for the bachelor’s and the master’s. All sub-scores must be met within one sitting.[5][12]
