The short answer

The International University of the Health Sciences (IUHS) is a private medical school with a mailing address in Basseterre, St. Kitts, and a study centre in Frigate Bay.[1] Its sources disagree on the founding year: the St. Kitts and Nevis government website says 1997, Wikipedia says 1998, and the table on our country page listed 2007.[2][3] Wikipedia also states that its headquarters are in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.[3]

The school lists its pre-clinical years (11 blocks over two years) at $34,850 and the administrative tuition for 80 weeks of clinical rotations at $20,800, without naming a currency or a year; hospital fees are extra.[4] It states that it is fully accredited by the St. Kitts and Nevis Accreditation Board and listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.[5] IUHS is not confirmed in the QS World University Rankings 2027.

About International University of the Health Sciences

IUHS describes itself as a global medical educational institution that aims to make medical education more student-centred and socially accountable. Its listed address is a post-office box in Basseterre, and its study centre is at the Marriott Concourse in Frigate Bay, St. Kitts.[1] The school also calls itself “not a traditional brick and mortar University” and says it uses modern technology in teaching.[7]

Wikipedia describes IUHS as a private medical school in Basseterre that opened in 1998, with headquarters in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.[3] The St. Kitts and Nevis government website says it was “founded in 1997”.[2] The school’s own home and about pages do not give a founding year. The table on our country page showed 2007, which none of these sources supports.

Is International University of the Health Sciences ranked?

We could not confirm a position for IUHS in the QS World University Rankings 2027, published on 18 June 2026. The QS website blocks automated access, and none of the sources we read names the school in that ranking. We therefore show “Not confirmed”. How we compile rankings.

The order of the table on the country page is not a ranking of quality.

Is International University of the Health Sciences accredited?

The statements below come from the school and the St. Kitts and Nevis government; none of them is dated.

  • St. Kitts and Nevis: the school says “IUHS is fully accredited by the St.Kitts and Nevis Accreditation Board”.[5] The government website says the School of Medicine is accredited by the Government of the Federation of St. Christopher & Nevis and listed in the WHO World Directory of Medical Schools, 7th edition.[2]
  • WDOMS and FAIMER: the school says it is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and “listed with FAIMER”, and that its accreditation and directory listing make students eligible for the USMLE and MCC (Medical Council of Canada) examinations.[5] Wikipedia gives a FAIMER listing “effective in 1998” and a FAIMER school ID.[3] We could not open the directory itself to check the entry.
  • Other jurisdictions: the school says its graduates have been licensed in the UK (General Medical Council), Australia and India. It does not say those bodies accredit or recognise IUHS.[5]
  • CAAM-HP: not mentioned in the sources we read.

A directory listing is not the same as accreditation. Check the current status with the licensing body of the country where you want to practise before you enrol.

What can you study at International University of the Health Sciences?

The school lists a 4-year MD, a Pre-Clinical Science Program (Block 0), Integrated Clinical Medicine, a Clinical Program, a Bachelor of Science, a Masters Program and a Pre-Med Program.[1] The MD is the only programme with a stated duration (four years), structured around a pre-clinical phase and clinical rotations.[7] Wikipedia says the school offers MBBS and MD degrees and a premedical MBBS track of 90 credit hours for students without the prerequisite undergraduate degree.[3] Durations given in other places vary, so confirm the length of your route with the school.
