About Jean Piaget University of Angola

The university’s development plan 2023–2033 says the promoting association, AIPA, was constituted on 10 February 1999. The university began in the 1999 academic year with a propaedeutic course at facilities in Viana and moved to its own campus in 2000 with seven courses in three areas: social and human sciences, health sciences and technology.[4] Pharmaceutical sciences, petroleum engineering and civil engineering followed in 2002.[4]

The creation decree is Decree 44-A/01. AngoLEX shows it approved by the Council of Ministers on 18 October 2000 and authorising a private institution owned by the Instituto Jean Piaget de Angola,[5] while the development plan cites it as a decree “of 6 July 2000”.[4] Wikipedia gives 1999 in its text and 2000 in its infobox.[6] We therefore treat 1999 as the start of activity and 2000 as the year of the campus and the decree.

The 2024 statute (Decreto Executivo 181/24) names the seat as the Viana university campus and the promoter as AIPA, and lists five faculties: Health Sciences, Science and Technology, Social Sciences and Humanities, Humanities, Arts, Education and Teacher Training, and Law.[1] The university website’s menu shows four faculties and places Law among the programmes.[2]

Not the same as other Jean Piaget universities: the development plan says Instituto Piaget (Portugal) created separate promoting bodies in 1999 for Jean Piaget universities in Angola, Mozambique and Cape Verde.[4] This page covers only the Angolan university in Viana, Luanda.
