Lusíada University of Angola (Universidade Lusíada de Angola, ULA) is a private university in Luanda. About Lusíada University of Angola

Decree 42/02 authorises the company Saber Angola Lda. to open Lusíada University of Angola as a “private-law higher-education institution”. It names management, engineering, law and economics as the initial areas, makes admission follow the criteria of public higher education plus any additional criteria the university sets, and subjects the university to periodic evaluation by the education ministry.[1] The statute describes ULA as a private institution with its own legal personality, promoted by Sociedade Saber Angola, with licenciatura, master’s and doctoral degrees and its seat in Mutamba, Luanda.[2]

A 2017 ministerial decree approved reformed study plans for the licenciatura courses in management informatics, psychology (with health, organisational and school options) and human resources management; the accounting and finance plan appears in the decree’s annexes.[6] The university site lists branches (pólos) in Benguela from 2003, Cabinda from 2006, Huambo from 2012 and Lunda-Sul from 2013.[3]

The founding year is not consistent across the university’s own pages: its timeline gives 1998 for the foundation and 2002 for the official authorisation, while its “About” page says 1986 and “15,000+ students”, a figure we could not corroborate.[3] We use the legal date, 2002.[1]

Not the same as Lusíada Portugal: ULA is an Angolan institution with its own statute and its own admissions.[2] The university site lists the foundation Fundação Minerva (Universidades Lusíada) among its partners in Portugal.[3] We found no source describing a formal ownership link.

How is Lusíada University of Angola ranked?

We could not confirm a position in the QS World University Rankings 2027. The QS site blocks automated access and no readable source we found lists ULA, so we give no number. We found no other ranking position for ULA in a source we could read. Rankings differ by publisher and year, so treat one position as one view. How we compile rankings.

What can you study at Lusíada University of Angola?

The university site shows five faculties: Economic Sciences, Social and Human Sciences, Accounting and Finance, Science and Technology, and Law and International Relations.[3] The statute’s annex lists five faculties with the same subject areas.[2]

Licenciatura programmes listed on the site include Architecture, Accounting and Finance, Law, Economics, Computer Engineering, Business Management, Human Resources Management, Management Informatics, Psychology and International Relations. It also advertises master’s programmes, for example in business law.[3] Check the current list on the university website.

How much does Lusíada University of Angola cost?

The university site shows no fee schedule on the pages we read. The figures below come from two surveys by the newspaper Expansão and may be out of date. Amounts are in Kz (Angolan kwanza).

ItemAmountReport
Monthly tuition, in-demand courses (including economics and management)39,000 KzJanuary 2019[4]
Average cost per year596,000 KzJuly 2022[5]
Total cost of a degreeabout 2,000,000 KzJuly 2022[5]

The two reports point in different directions: in 2019 Expansão’s 39,000 Kz was the highest monthly figure among the institutions listed in the article,[4] while in 2022 it called Lusíada the cheapest in total among the large private universities surveyed. The 2022 article’s total and its per-year average do not reconcile with a four- or five-year course.[5] Confirm the current fees with the university.

How do you apply to Lusíada University of Angola?

Under the founding decree admission follows the criteria of public higher education plus those the university adds.[1] The university site describes the steps for its programmes as: choose a course, fill in the application form and attach the required documents, then confirm enrolment after approval. Master’s applicants need the licenciatura required for the chosen programme.[3] The site lists an admissions address, admissoes@ula.co.ao, and a link to its academic portal.[3]

We give no dates because they change every year; the site publishes calls for each programme and an academic calendar. We found no separate procedure for international applicants on the pages we read.

Which language do you need?

Portuguese. The university’s website, course descriptions and documents are in Portuguese.[3] We found no English-taught programme and no stated language-certificate requirement.
