The short answer

The Medical University of Plovdiv (MU-Plovdiv) is a public medical university in Bulgaria’s second city. Its website dates the university to 1945, and Wikipedia says it started that year as a medical faculty of Plovdiv University.[1][2] It has four faculties (Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health), a Department of Languages and Specialized Training and a Medical College.[2] We could not confirm a QS World University Rankings 2027 position.

The tuition page still lists the 2025/26 fees: for English-taught programmes, €9,000 in the first year and €8,000 in years two to six for Medicine and Dental Medicine, and €6,000 a year for Pharmacy.[3] English-language applicants take entry tests in Biology and Chemistry in English and show English at least at B1 level.[4]

About the Medical University of Plovdiv

Wikipedia reports that the university was established in 1945 as a medical faculty of Plovdiv University, became an independent Medical Academy in 1950, was renamed Higher Medical Institute in 1972 and became the Medical University of Plovdiv in 2002. The university’s own website shows “1945 – 2026” in its heading.[2][1] The university has four faculties (Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health), one Department of Languages and Specialized Training and a Medical College.[2]

Wikipedia gives two different student numbers (“over 5000” and “over 3800”), so we do not quote a total. The university’s Foreign Student Admission Office is in the University Information Center at the central gate of the campus.[2][5]

The university also teaches Medicine, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy in English for foreign students.[4] The university also lists bachelor’s programmes (Nursing, Midwifery, Physician Assistant, Healthcare Management) and professional bachelor’s programmes (for example Physiotherapist, Dental Technician); the professional bachelor’s programmes are taught in the Medical College.
