What is Hamelmalo Agricultural College?
The college is a public institution at Hamelmalo in the Anseba region, near Keren.[1][2] The IAU World Higher Education Database lists it as Hamelmalo Agricultural College, created 2006, with the National Commission for Higher Education as accrediting body and a divisions list limited to agriculture; that entry was last updated on 17 January 2017.[1] Ministry of Information releases call it Hamelmalo College of Agriculture.[3]
The start date is unclear. Wikipedia’s list of universities in Eritrea and the ASTI agricultural research directory give 2005; the IAU database gives 2006; a 2016 Ministry of Information report says “since its establishment in 2008”.[6][2][1][7] The 19th commencement in 2026 fits a first graduating class in 2008, which may explain the later date, but no source says so. Wikipedia’s list adds that the colleges were re-established as independent institutions after the University of Asmara closed in 2007.[6]
How is Hamelmalo Agricultural College ranked?
Times Higher Education says Eritrea has no universities in its overall World University Rankings.[5] We could not read QS’s own pages (they block automated access) and found no press or aggregator source placing the college in the QS World University Rankings 2027, so no QS position is given. uniRank lists the college sixth among seven Eritrean institutions in its 2026 edition, without a score on the page we read; this is one aggregator’s ordering.[8] How we compile rankings.
What can you study at Hamelmalo Agricultural College?
The 2016 graduation report names master’s, first-degree and diploma programmes in agricultural economics, agricultural engineering, horticulture, agronomy, land resources and environment, animal science and veterinary science.[7] The 2026 report lists agronomy, animal science, plant pathology, horticulture, veterinary science, and food science and technology, and says the first doctoral veterinary graduates, 20 students including seven women, received their degrees.[3]
The IAU entry (2017) lists a bachelor’s degree in agriculture and master’s degrees in agriculture, agronomy, animal husbandry, environmental studies, horticulture and natural resources.[1] Programme lists differ between sources and years, so check the current offer with the college.
How much does Hamelmalo Agricultural College cost?
We found no fee schedule from the college or the Ministry of Education. Uni2Study, a secondary guide, states that tuition at all of Eritrea’s public colleges is free and that the state is the only funder of higher education inside the country.[4] We could not check this against an official text, and we give no figures for foreign students.
How do you apply to Hamelmalo Agricultural College?
Uni2Study says there is no separate application portal for college entry: placement follows the national exam score and the government’s assessment of which sectors need graduates.[4] We found no official admission rules for foreign nationals and no college website. The 2010 directory entry gives P.O. Box 397, Keren as the postal address.[2] We give no deadlines.
