About Nanyang Polytechnic

NYP says it was established in 1992.[1] Wikipedia gives the date as 1 April 1992 and describes it as a post-secondary education institution and statutory board under the Ministry of Education.[2] The Singapore Government Directory lists NYP among the statutory boards of the Ministry of Education.[4]

The campus is at 180 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8 and covers 30 hectares.[4][2] Wikipedia gives 12,787 students and 1,349 staff for 2025; the article carries “needs more citations” tags, so treat the figure as indicative.[2] NYP’s own page does not state an enrolment figure.[1]

A polytechnic, not a university: NYP offers full-time diploma courses and common entry programmes, not bachelor’s degrees.[1]

How is Nanyang Polytechnic ranked?

We found no QS World University Rankings 2027 position for Nanyang Polytechnic in the sources we read, and NYP’s own page gives none.[1] The position could not be confirmed, so we show none. Rankings differ by publisher and year, and rankings of universities do not map neatly onto diploma-level institutions. How we compile rankings.

What can you study at Nanyang Polytechnic?

NYP offers 38 full-time diploma courses and common entry programmes, grouped in six schools:[1]

  • School of Applied Science
  • School of Business Management
  • School of Design & Media
  • School of Engineering
  • School of Health & Social Sciences
  • School of Information Technology

Some Design & Media and Business Management courses also ask for a digital portfolio, and selected courses need a medical check-up or a specific test.[5] See the course list on nyp.edu.sg.

How much does Nanyang Polytechnic cost in 2026?

NYP lists annual fees for full-time diploma students under the Tuition Grant scheme for AY2026, in Singapore dollars. The tuition fee for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents is before GST, which the Government absorbs; for international students it includes GST.[3]

Student groupSubsidised tuitionSupplementary fees and GSTPayable per year
Singapore Citizen, below 40S$3,100.00S$88.09S$3,188.09
Singapore Citizen, 40 and aboveS$2,100.00S$88.09S$2,188.09
Permanent ResidentS$6,400.00S$118.09S$6,518.09
International, ASEANS$12,400.00S$178.59S$12,578.59
International, otherS$13,600.00S$178.59S$13,778.59

The 40-and-above rate includes the SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy. Fees are billed per semester and are cohort-based, so tuition stays constant for the length of the course. NYP states that the information is correct as of 14 May 2026 and subject to change.[3]

Students who do not take the Tuition Grant pay “unsubsidised” course fees; NYP’s page does not give the amount, so ask NYP for the figure.[3]

The Tuition Grant and the bond

MOE’s Tuition Grant supports selected full-time diploma and undergraduate studies at polytechnics and other institutions.[6] International students who receive it must work full-time for a Singapore employer for 3 years after graduation; leaving the course or buying out the bond can trigger liquidated damages imposed by MOE.[3][7] For living costs, see our Study in Singapore guide and the Singapore overview.

How do you apply to Nanyang Polytechnic as an international student?

International applicants apply through NYP’s Direct Admissions Exercise (DAE) online application system for their qualification type; NYP lists separate systems for international qualifications and for SPM, UEC and IGCSE.[5]

  • Eligibility: you must meet the course’s eligibility criteria and the minimum entry requirements (MER). Meeting them does not guarantee shortlisting, which depends on merit and course availability that year.[5]
  • Documents: after you submit, you upload ID, your result slip or transcript, the national exam registration slip where applicable, and IELTS/TOEFL results where applicable. A sponsor must submit a Company Sponsorship Form.[5]
  • Test and interview: shortlisted applicants are invited to an online English, Mathematics or Science entrance test where applicable and may be called for an interview.[5]

We give no deadlines here because they change every year; see the DAE page for the current windows.

Which English level do you need?

You can submit valid IELTS or TOEFL results instead of taking the English Entrance Test. Applicants with a Brunei GCE O-Level, an IGCSE with English as first language, the IB Diploma, or the Malaysian SPM or UEC are exempt from the entrance test.[5]

For at least some qualifications (the page names Vietnam) the benchmark is an IELTS Academic overall score of 6.0 with at least 6.0 in each component, or a TOEFL score of at least 78. Check the page for your own qualification.[5]
