Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) is a public autonomous university in Singapore, set up in 2009 to give polytechnic graduates more opportunities to continue their education.[1] It has more than 10,000 students and teaches applied degrees, some of them jointly with overseas universities.[2][3]
SIT charges tuition per credit. For the AY2026 intake in a 180-credit engineering programme (Engineering Systems), the subsidised rate is S$371.69 per credit for non-ASEAN international students and S$324.82 for ASEAN students; the non-subsidised rate is S$575.52, all including 9% GST.[3] Non-Singaporeans who take the MOE Tuition Grant must commit to work in a Singapore entity for three years after graduation.[4] We could not confirm a QS World University Rankings 2027 position for SIT.

About Singapore Institute of Technology
Singapore Institute of Technology was incorporated in 2009 to give polytechnic graduates more opportunities to continue their education.[1] In 2005 the Ministry of Education had launched the Polytechnic-Foreign Specialised Institutions initiative, which encouraged polytechnics to partner with overseas universities; a dedicated publicly funded institute followed.[2] In 2014 a bill gave SIT autonomous status and the right to confer its own degrees.[2]
SIT describes itself as Singapore’s first university of applied learning and the “university for industry”, with a pedagogy that integrates work and study.[6] The Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP) reached its tenth year in January 2025.[1] In 2024 and 2025 the university moved to a new campus in the Punggol Digital District: 3,800 students started there in September 2024 and a further 6,000 followed in May 2025.[1]
How is Singapore Institute of Technology ranked?
We could not confirm a position for SIT in the QS World University Rankings 2027 (published 18 June 2026): QS’s website blocks automated access and none of the pages we read states a rank. The SIT pages and the Wikipedia article we read give no world ranking either.[6][2] We therefore show no world rank for SIT. Rankings differ by publisher and year. How we compile rankings.
On the Singapore country page SIT is listed together with the country’s other institutions.
What can you study at Singapore Institute of Technology?
The degrees are grouped into five clusters: Engineering; Food, Chemical and Biotechnology; Infocomm Technology; Health and Social Sciences; and Business, Communication and Design.[2] The AY2026 fee sheet lists, among others, Accountancy, Aviation Management, Communication and Digital Media, Hospitality and Tourism Management, several engineering degrees (aircraft systems, civil, computer, electrical and electronic, robotics and others), Food Technology, Applied Computing, Applied Artificial Intelligence, Digital Supply Chain, Nursing and several allied-health degrees such as Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Diagnostic Radiography.[3]
Joint and overseas-university programmes in the same sheet:[3]
- DigiPen: computer science degrees in interactive media and game development and in real-time interactive simulation (joint degrees), and a user experience and game design degree.
- Newcastle University: Electrical Power Engineering; Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Engineering; Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
- Technical University of Munich: Chemical Engineering; Electronics and Data Engineering.
- University of Glasgow: Civil Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Computing Science; Nursing.
- Culinary Institute of America: Bachelor of Business Administration in Food Business Management (Baking and Pastry Arts, and Culinary Arts).
Programme lengths in the sheet are given in credits: 120, 132, 180 or 240 credits depending on the degree.[3] For 2023 Wikipedia reports 13,053 applicants for 3,328 places in 39 degree programmes.[2]
How much does Singapore Institute of Technology cost?
SIT uses a cohort-based system: students admitted in AY2026 pay the same rate per credit for their whole candidature. Each trimester’s bill is the number of credits registered multiplied by the rate.[3] The table shows two standard SIT degrees (AY2026 intake, S$ per credit).[3]
| Student group | Engineering Systems (180 credits) | Accountancy (180 credits) |
|---|---|---|
| Singapore Citizens (before GST) | S$131.00 | S$156.00 |
| Singapore Permanent Residents (before GST) | S$225.00 | S$236.00 |
| International, ASEAN (incl. 9% GST) | S$324.82 | S$364.06 |
| International, non-ASEAN (incl. 9% GST) | S$371.69 | S$408.75 |
| Non-subsidised, any status (incl. 9% GST) | S$575.52 | S$653.46 |
Across the whole sheet the non-ASEAN international rate runs from S$371.69 up to S$552.63 per credit, and the non-subsidised rate from S$575.52 up to S$810.96. The highest rates apply to the overseas-university programmes (for example the Culinary Institute of America degrees).[3] The sheet gives no yearly total. As our own arithmetic, a 180-credit degree at S$371.69 per credit comes to about S$66,904 over the whole programme, and at S$408.75 to S$73,575.
What the subsidised rate means
The subsidised rates assume the MOE Tuition Grant. Singapore Citizens receive it automatically without a bond. Non-Singaporeans, including Permanent Residents, must apply and sign a grant agreement to work in a Singapore entity for three years after graduation.[4] The non-subsidised rate is what you pay without the grant.[3]
Other fees
The miscellaneous fee for international students on full-time programmes in AY2026 is S$111.65 per trimester (S$121.70 including GST).[4] Every matriculating student pays a one-time, non-refundable matriculation fee of S$54.50 including GST.[7] SIT notes that it has very limited financial assistance schemes for international students.[8] Fees are reviewed every year.[4] For living costs, see our Study in Singapore guide.
How do you apply to Singapore Institute of Technology?
SIT looks at applicants as a whole: grades matter, but so do work experience, co-curricular activities and passion for the field, and shortlisted applicants are called to an interview.[5] Entry routes are listed by qualification: polytechnic diplomas, A-Levels, the International Baccalaureate, international qualifications and other local diplomas.[5]
International qualifications. Applicants with an overseas qualification, for example Malaysia STPM or UEC, India Standard XII (CBSE, ISCE), Indonesia SMA or the Vietnam High School Graduation Certificate, are considered case by case for the programmes listed on SIT’s page. At least 12 years of formal education are required. You submit your Year 12 or A-Level results, Year 10 or O-Level results, a high school transcript with an explanation of the grading system and, where needed, additional tests such as the SAT.[8] Each programme can add its own requirements, for example H2 Mathematics and a science subject for the Technical University of Munich programmes.[8]
After the offer. International students must pass the SIT medical examination and complete the ICA medical examination report for the Student’s Pass.[8] The medical examination is also part of matriculation.[7] We give no deadlines because they change every year; the application portal and the admissions pages show the current schedule. Applications go through SIT’s learner portal.[5]
Which language level do you need?
Applicants whose language of instruction in high school was not English must submit an acceptable English test score, with IELTS and TOEFL given as examples.[8] The page we read does not state minimum scores. For some programmes, such as Communication and Digital Media, programme-specific English requirements apply, so check your programme before you book a test.[8]
