About Temasek Polytechnic

Temasek Polytechnic was set up in April 1990. Cabinet gave in-principle approval on 22 December 1989, Parliament passed the Temasek Polytechnic Bill on 28 March 1990 and the Bill received Presidential Assent on 6 April 1990.[1] It was approved as Singapore’s third polytechnic.[1]

The campus lies in Tampines, next to Bedok Reservoir, on a 30-hectare site; classes began there on 18 September 1995.[1] TP has over 13,000 full-time students, over 1,400 staff and six academic schools; its website also lists a Centre for Foundation Studies, which the page does not count as a school.[1]

A polytechnic, not a university: Temasek Polytechnic offers diploma courses (36 full-time ones), not bachelor’s degrees.[1] The Singapore Government Directory lists it among the statutory boards under the Ministry of Education.[2]

How is Temasek Polytechnic ranked?

We found no QS World University Rankings 2027 position for Temasek Polytechnic in the sources we read, and the official corporate profile gives none.[1] The position could not be confirmed, so we show none. Rankings differ by publisher and year, and rankings of universities do not map neatly onto diploma-level institutions. How we compile rankings.

What can you study at Temasek Polytechnic?

TP offers 36 full-time diploma courses and over 40 part-time courses.[1] The full-time courses sit in six schools:[1]

  • Applied Science
  • Business
  • Design
  • Engineering
  • Humanities & Social Sciences
  • Informatics & IT

The page does not describe the content of each school; see the course list on tp.edu.sg. Full-time diplomas are aimed mainly at school leavers, and international students always start in the first year; mature applicants are pointed to part-time courses.[5]

How much does Temasek Polytechnic cost in 2026/27?

Fees below are for full-time diploma students who start in AY2026/27, in Singapore dollars per year, and apply to students who receive the MOE Tuition Grant. Fees are cohort-based, so they stay the same for the length of the course.[3]

Student groupTuition per yearSupplementary feesPayable per year

TP bills fees by semester, with half of the tuition in each. For international students all fees include GST, and the GST on tuition is borne by the student (cohort AY2016/17 onwards). For Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents the GST on tuition is subsidised by MOE.[3] The page lists no fee schedule for AY2027/28 and does not show a full, unsubsidised fee for international students.[3]

The MOE Tuition Grant and the bond

The Tuition Grant is an MOE scheme for selected full-time diploma and undergraduate studies at polytechnics and other institutions.[6] International students and Permanent Residents who receive it must serve a 3-year bond after graduation.[4] Students who are not eligible or who choose not to apply are described as “non-subsidised”; TP’s page says they cannot use its financing schemes but gives no amount for the full fee.[3] Ask TP for the unsubsidised fee before you decide.

Earlier cohorts paid less: for example international students who started in AY2025/26 pay S$12,400 in tuition and S$12,562.75 in total.[3] For living costs, see our Study in Singapore guide and the Singapore overview.

How do you apply to Temasek Polytechnic as an international student?

Admission to full-time diplomas is competitive and based on merit, subject to vacancies.[5] The page for international students refers you to a “Country Requirement” page for the qualification accepted from your country, and does not itself name an application portal or an admission test.[5]

  • Student’s Pass: all international students must apply for a valid Student’s Pass through the immigration authority’s SOLAR system; the authority issues an In-Principle Approval letter.[5]
  • Tuition Grant: the grant is for eligible students under MOE’s scheme.[6] Check eligibility and the application steps with TP and MOE before you accept an offer.

We give no deadlines here because they change every year. Check the current intake on TP’s website.

Which English level do you need?

Holders of the IGCSE or an international GCE ‘O’ Level (except the Sri Lanka GCE ‘O’ Level) meet the O-Level English requirement. Other qualifications need an IELTS or TOEFL result, and the required score varies with the English requirement of each diploma course.[5]

TP lists minimum scores by O-Level English grade: IELTS 6.0 for a B4 requirement and IELTS 5.5 for a C6 requirement. The TOEFL scores are listed in the same table on TP’s page.[5] Applicants with GCE ‘O’ Level or IB results, or results from Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines or the USA, are exempt from the IELTS/TOEFL requirement.[5]
