About Griffith University
Griffith University was created by an Act of the Queensland Parliament in 1971 and began teaching on 5 March 1975, with 451 students in four schools.[9] The university’s own site dates its story from 1975 and says its teaching and research are shaped by social justice, environmental sustainability and inclusive access to education.[1]
It has four physical campuses in South East Queensland: Gold Coast (the largest), Logan, Brisbane City and Brisbane South in Nathan, the foundation campus.[8] Wikipedia still lists Mount Gravatt as a fifth campus; the university’s campus page names four.[9] A new Treasury Building in Brisbane’s city centre is due to open in 2027 and will bring Business, Law and IT students into the CBD.[8]
The university gives two student numbers on the same page: 45,000 in its “at a glance” panel and “more than 40,000” in the text above it.[1] We therefore show 45,000 as the university’s own figure and do not give a number of international students, which we could not confirm from a page we read.

How much does Griffith University cost for international students in 2027?
Griffith sets international tuition by fee band and charges it per credit point. The indicative annual fee is calculated for a standard full-time load, which is usually 80 credit points (two full-time trimesters).[5] The bands in the table above give A$39,500 to A$88,500 a year in 2027 for the five degrees we read; other degrees will differ, so check your own degree page.[3][7] Examples in 2027: Business A$493.75 per credit point, Nursing A$550 per credit point, Doctor of Medicine A$1,106.25 per credit point.[3][5][7]
Fees are reviewed every year and can change. Students are liable for the fees of the courses they are enrolled in on the census date, and a student who changes programme pays the approved fee of the new programme for that trimester.[5] The university also states that eligible international students starting in 2026 and 2027 receive a 20% tuition reduction through the International Academic Merit Scholarship, with no separate application.[5]
Tuition is only part of the cost. For living costs and visas see our Study in Australia guide and the Australia ranking.
How do you apply to Griffith University as an international student?
Griffith’s page lists five steps: choose your degree, check the entry requirements, check whether you are eligible for credit, prepare supporting documents and submit your application. Applications are open all year for most programmes.[10] Students completing Australian Year 12 apply through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) instead.[10]
If you do not meet the English requirement, you can complete the Academic English Program at Griffith English Language Institute.[10] We give no deadlines here because they change every year; use the “How to apply” section of your degree page.
To study on a student visa you need the Australian Student visa (subclass 500). The Department of Home Affairs says you must be enrolled in a course and hold a valid Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), and hold Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) unless exempt. The visa cost starts from A$2,500, and new rules for Student visas apply from 2 October 2026, so check the current rules before you plan.[12]
Which English level do you need?
The requirement is set per degree. On the degree pages we read, the Bachelor of Business, the Bachelor of Information Technology and the Master of Business Administration list IELTS (Academic) 6.5, and the Doctor of Medicine lists 7.0.[3][4][6][7] The Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Midwifery have additional English requirements that are shown in the degree finder.[10]
For applicants with an Australian Year 12, the minimum is a grade of C in Units 3 and 4 of English or English as an Additional Language, or an approved English test.[10] Check the degree page for other accepted tests.
