How is Malmö University ranked?
We could not confirm a QS World University Rankings 2027 position (published 18 June 2026) for Malmö University. QS blocks automated access to its site, and none of the sources we read named a Malmö position, so we give none.
The Studyportals page “Sweden University Rankings 2027 | SP Meta Ranking” places Malmö University 19th among Swedish universities. This is a different ranking from QS.[7] Rankings differ by publisher and year, so treat one position as one view. How we compile rankings.
What can you study at Malmö University?
The education page lists 29 master’s programmes and 6 bachelor’s programmes, and says its English-taught bachelor’s programmes are in social science and interaction design.[6] The fee page names, for example, bachelor’s programmes in European Studies, Human Rights, Interaction Design, International Migration and Ethnic Relations, International Relations and Peace and Conflict Studies, and one-year master’s programmes in Communication for Development, Interaction Design, Leadership for Sustainability and Political Science.[2]
For a country overview see the Study in Sweden guide.
How much does Malmö University cost?
Students with citizenship outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland are generally required to pay application and tuition fees. Swedish, EU/EEA and Swiss citizens do not pay, but must upload proof of citizenship. Exchange students and doctoral students are exempt.[2] The amounts are total programme fees for autumn semester 2026 starts, paid in instalments, not yearly amounts:[2]
| Level | Total fee (SEK) | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor’s | 325,000–520,000 | International Relations 325,000; Interaction Design 520,000 |

| Two-year master’s | 220,000–430,000 | Biomedical Surface Science 430,000 |
The page was last modified on 27 October 2026. It lists no fee for the Nordic Urban Planning Studies master’s, which is taught by Roskilde University. It does not give the application fee; the admissions page states SEK 900 for applicants with non-EU/EEA citizenship.[2][3]
Scholarships
The scholarship page (modified 3 April 2025) lists the Malmö University Master’s Scholarship (partial or full tuition, for master’s applicants who must pay tuition, apply in the first admissions round and rank an English-taught Malmö master’s programme first) and the Malmö University Excellence Scholarship (tuition waiver for the next academic year for enrolled fee-paying students starting their second or third year). It also lists the Swedish Institute’s SI Scholarship for Global Professionals and a fully funded scholarship for women from certain countries in Africa and Asia studying STEM master’s programmes.[8] Check the scholarship page for the current round before you rely on it.
How do you apply to Malmö University?
All applications are made through universityadmissions.se, the national portal. The steps: find your programme and check its entry requirements, fee and extra documents; click “Apply” on the programme page; create an account and submit the application; upload the required documents; track your status in your account.[3]
- Applicants with non-EU/EEA citizenship pay an application fee of SEK 900; EU/EEA and Swiss applicants are exempt but must provide proof of citizenship.[3]
- The first admissions round is recommended for international students and gives time to arrange housing. The second round is for EU/EEA and Swiss citizens; non-EU citizens who need a residence permit are advised against it, because obtaining a permit before the semester is nearly impossible.[3]
We give no deadlines here because they change every year; check the programme page.
Which language level do you need?
All programmes require English 6, also called English B.[3] The national admissions service accepts, for English 6, IELTS Academic with overall 6.5 and no section below 5.5, TOEFL iBT with a total of 4.5 on the 1–6 scale (results from 21 January 2026) and no section below 4, PTE Academic 62 with writing 61, or Cambridge C1 Advanced with at least 180. A letter from your school or university is not enough on its own.[9]
