How is Örebro University ranked?

We could not confirm a position in the QS World University Rankings 2027 from a source we read, because QS blocks automated access to its site. Örebro’s own ranking pages mention only Times Higher Education (THE) and the Shanghai ranking (ARWU), not QS.[9][10]

In the latest THE World University Rankings, published in September 2025, Örebro is in the 651–700 band; it has been included since 2015. In the THE Europe ranking it stands at 255th, but the page gives no edition year.[9] In ARWU it places itself in the 901–1000 band, also without a year; it first appeared in the ranking in 2018.[10] Wikipedia lists the 601–800 band in THE (2024).[2] Rankings differ by publisher and year, so treat one position as one view. Application fee

Applicants from outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland pay SEK 900. Your application is not processed until the fee is paid, and the fee cannot be waived.[4][3] Late payment makes the application “late”, and late applications are considered only if places are available.[3]

Örebro University Scholarship

The scholarship covers full tuition fees but not living costs. It goes to master’s applicants who are citizens of countries outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland and required to pay tuition, who were admitted through universityadmissions.se with Örebro as first priority, and who do not hold a Swedish Institute scholarship. It commonly covers 4 to 5 students a year. Selection looks at motivation, academic performance and commitment to studying at Örebro; financial need is not considered.[12]

For rent and living costs, see our Study in Sweden guide.

How do you apply to Örebro University?

For master’s programmes you apply online through universityadmissions.se, the national application site. Create an account, select your programmes and rank them: you are considered first for your highest-ranked programme and can be offered only one place.[4] Check each programme’s entry requirements on its programme page.[4]

You submit your documents to University Admissions; some countries have special document requirements. Örebro does not consider a CV, letters of recommendation or a letter of motivation, and it cannot assess your eligibility until a complete application is in.[4] If you are exempt from fees you must prove your citizenship and exemption by submitting documents to University Admissions.[3]

After you pay the first semester’s tuition you can apply for a residence permit with the Swedish Migration Agency; the university notifies the agency.[3] We give no deadlines here because they change every year; they are published on universityadmissions.se.

Which English level do you need?

All master’s programmes require knowledge of English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary courses English 6 or English B. You can meet this with an internationally recognised test, or through upper secondary or university studies in some countries.[4]

The national admissions service gives the test equivalents for English 6: IELTS Academic with an overall score of 6.5 and no section below 5.5; TOEFL iBT with a total of 4.5 on the 1–6 scale and no section below 4 for results from 21 January 2026, and a total of 90 with at least 20 in the written test for earlier results.[13] Some master’s programmes require a different level, so check the programme page.[13]
